Typical chinese way....never consider the feelings of others.

Re Inspiritas

I found out the teacher that replaced me arrived Wed night and was made to teach a full day the next day. Saturday morning she announced her departure. It's ridiculous to ask someone to do that with no time to acclimate themselves to the new environment not to mention the jet lag. She was a retired teacher.

Yes we were sent to develop oral English, teaching in Chinese primary schools. With no further instructions, the other teacher and I set out doing what we had done at other international schools. A month into the program a guy comes from MA to tell us how to do this "their way". This guy had never taught in China, had no concept of the culture and how it works with the education system. 30 students, 30 minutes (25 after you get little ones settled), we should have 4 activities and oh, only let one student, the leader, from each group of 6 speak. I won't do that, leave kids out,? No way. In my class everyone gets the opportunity to learn. I sent an email resigning, no acknowledgement of receipt of email(not professional). According to the contract I only had to give one week's notice, but I gave two to be considerate. Nothing from HQ except the Chinese branch called me the next day wanting to meet. I did and I told him exactly why I was resigning. His response was that he was leaving and we agreed I could continue to teach the plan I had put in place. Imagine my surprise when on April 26, I was informed that my last day was May 3rd, the end of the 2 weeks notice I had given. As I said in my original statement there was no communication. I have taught in China fro 6 years and have a good feel for how to encourage the kids to participate without being shy. Don't sign on.
