Re: Shang Li Foreign Languages School, Beijing - ESL school review

Dear readers,

I really am a native English speaker who taught at this school.

The reason I am replying to Williams comment is that I like the school a lot. I would not want people thinking that they are liars. Therefore if anyone sends me an email I will prove I am a native speaker. I can video conference on skype if you want.

I can understand why William is suspicious. There are many schools (especially on the China Forums) pretending to be someone else.

All the best,

Fiona

I think the length of your basic sentences and the lack of discourse markers and poor punctuation make this unlikely to be the genuine work of a native-speaker teacher.

I think it is blatantly clear you are just advertising your own school. Please don't underestimate the intelligence of the readers here. This won't fool anybody.

Shang Li Foreign Languages School, Beijing - ESL school review

I teach at Shang Li School in Beijing. It is a primary and high school. My experience here has been good. I am finishing up here to travel and then study.

I have my own room on campus which is very comfortable. I have spring water and 3 meals a day. I live on campus which is convenient. I have my own western toilet, landline, washing machine, fridge, tv, dvd player, cd player, computer, printer, broadband internet.

I don't have many expenses. My only expenses are transport and entertainment. So I can save 80% of my pay.

The teachers and the international officer are very friendly. The school has a good atmosphere. They respect my time and personal space. In the beginning I was asked to work more classes and I declined. They didn't try and pressure me to work more than I wanted to.

I was asked to do a few promotional classes for potential new students to the school. I was happy to do this and I was paid for that.

The children are good value. They are smart. Of course they are kids so they have noisy days sometimes - as you expect.

I have classes 4 days per week. Mon-Thurs. So I get 3 days off in a row. Although I do lesson planning on Sundays.

I teach 5 classes a day. A class runs for 40minutes. I start at 10.10am and finish at 4.30pm. There is a 2 hour break in the middle of the day. Ten minute break inbetween classes.

The school is situated on the outskirts of Beijing. It is about a 45m - 1hr bus ride to XiZhiMen subway station (on the central loop line). It is 15m by taxi to WuDaoKou (30yuan) or 45m by bus. There is fresh air here and beautiful mountain scenery. There are beautiful temples near by.

I have been really happy here. I don't have any problems and often I look forward to going to work on Monday. The only negative is that it is not really close to the centre of town. However, it is really convenient living on campus as I don't waste time travelling to work everyday. Also, most employers don't provide free accommodation.

People have been really nice to me at this school. They really want foreign teachers to be happy. The international officer said they also have a certificate from the government to take foreign teachers.

I would recommend teaching here. I did a lot of research and asked many questions before I took this job. The school have followed through I what they said they would.
