I would not agree; an FT with English as a second language (thus a non-native speaker) is often better trained than the average native speaker in China.

My old mum trained me, and you can't odds that.

Average native speakers very oftehn can't explain certain grammar points that are important for learners of English as a foreign language. For example, can you tell me what the difference between a restrictive and non-restrictive relative clause in English is, and what it means? If you know, fine; if you don't k-now then this is where well-trained non-native English FTs come in because they all know these grammar points.

Nope, I can't, and what's more I don't need to to teach Oral English in China. There will be far less flaws in my everyday grammar as a native born, taught by Mum speaker, than the English cobbled together by academic foreign-born English swotters. No need for me to keep consulting a book.

BTW, your assertion has a second problem: if all English second language FT should be worth a lot, what about Chinese English teachers who often lay t- he ground for an FT like you to teach (Oral, or whatever) English in English?

Whether we like it or not, Chinese teachers are properly qualified teachers- they do very good groundwork, but as good as they get they are not fluent in English and students need oral practice with FT's. Being career teachers they should get pensions and good salaries. Most FT's only do the China stint for a couple of years.

For Oral English itself, it may be a different matter...

That's what we teach, Oral English.

Well, you generalise, so I can get you...LOL
