This school is a private company that is affiliated with Yunnan university and attempts authenticity as an educational institution by offering programs enabling students to access universities in Canada. Even though they claim to be a university they function like a private language school where the only concern is the money and the administrative staff have no educational experience whatsoever. The salary is higher than most positions of this kind in Kunming due to the exhaustive daily commute. The trip from Kunming to Chengong takes anywhere from 1 to 3 hours, so you can bank on an additional unpaid 3 hours daily.

With regards to payment, salaries have been paid late a number of times and random deductions are taken without consent. Adherence to the contract by the company is of no concern to them but any divergence by teachers is dealt with vindictively and there is no recourse internally. The managerial staff tend to stay in their offices without any introductions to teachers reflecting an attitude prevalent in China where teachers are mere commodities to be used and abused at will.
In order to save money, this company’s office is far away from the class rooms used so teachers need to be reasonably fit to navigate the mountainous terrain of the new campus.

In an attempt to be ISO9000 compliant mounds of additional paperwork are required from all teachers.Most of it should be completed by the administrators but they are not very keen to work shifting all onto the teachers. The administrators are a gaggle of young girls more concerned with maintaining their individual status than getting the job done leading to an extremely underhanded environment full of pubescent conflicts and regular crying and hissy fits in the office.

Due to the nature of the company, all classroom allocations and scheduling have to fall within the real university departments’ schedules making for some interesting scheduling full of holes. When your travel time exceeds your teaching time this can be of concern.

If money is your only concern then this place would be an option but if you are looking for a quality institution through which to teach in Kunming i would be weary .......
