In response to Shane English School Dalian (Red)

I have to agree with the above review of Shane English Dalian. I worked for them and they were, without a doubt, the worst employers I have ever worked for. The managers are abrasive as well as incompetent.

They are purely exploitative, they will not get you a visa. In my entire time there they did not manage (or possibly even try) to get a visa for any member of staff, despite assurances that they would. This meant we had to hide our documents and class details during visa inspections and pretend we weren't working there. At one point I was told that they could buy a visa for me but they didn't want to because it was too expensive. Even though we were all working illegally, we still had to pay tax every month. The amount we had to pay changed every month as well so it was definitely going into someone's pocket. When I challenged this I was told it was because they had to give us a tax certificate, yet when I left they refused to give me one.

You do not get paid what you are contracted for, the way you get paid for holidays is much less than what you are contracted for and even if you book a holiday months in advance you'll probably have to come into work in the middle of it. The contract says 18 hours, but you might have to work more without any overtime pay and you may have to spend up to 6 hours a week travelling to the various locations. You get absolutely no support from staff, if you need someone to translate for you at a doctors it's easier to just make a Chinese speaking friend who will help you, when you first arrive you are shown 3 really expensive apartments, some of which are unfit to live in and if you don't like them then you're on your own to find accommodation.

The Dongbei region is supposed to be beautiful but you won't see any of it because you will never get two days off in a row and you can't plan any extra private tutoring classes because your schedule changes all the time, you'll have to cancel them. As well as the 18 hours of class there is huge amounts of administrative work that get dumped on some members of the foreign staff. You also get almost no public holidays off, even though all the other schools and most of the country get to celebrate you'll be stuck in a stuffy classroom

This is just the tip of the iceberg, there are loads of better schools you can work for in Dalian
