I don't know anything about this school but I can tell you a little about Changchun Jilin (I've been there a few times).

Its not 'bottom of the barrel' but you should know its a kind of former steel and industrial city (and still is) and reminds me a little of Chinas version of I dunno Liverpool or Canadas Hamilton or USAs Detroit and I guess in the sense they are working class people cities. Working class, a little industrial looking, not pretty, a bit rough around the edges.

The upside is.. Changchun people (like the counterparts) are often more earthy, hearty, friendly, not 'polite' but they are easygoing and more down-to-earth and 'real'. Which I genuinely liked about Changchun.

Sorry to say there isn't much colourful or exciting about Changchun. Its very broad. vast. but like anywhere you certainly can find an IMAX theater, there is a real coffee shop somewhere, there is something you can do there for fun or interest.

Its cold. Its comparable to Canada's prairie provinces. In fact, the summers can actually be wicked hot (June July August sorta time) but by September chilly nights and then by October its 'winter' and its a long long subzero winter. Again, no pretty mountains or Harbins amazing ice festivals (unless they started their own version??).

Possibly going to be uncomfortable for foreigners in that they dont have many foreigners and so yes people will stare in amazement, take photos, look scared/surprised sometimes.

Possible Upside: You should be able to collect more pay (being a rarer thing willing to live in a brutal cold city) and Changchun isn't that expensive either. (we stayed at a surprisingly nice hotel for 75 rmb a night!) and overall most things were pretty reasonably priced.

I'm no expert though. I didn't live there for any length of time. I did run into more 'tough guys' rowdy types (especially near train station) but overall also many more friendlier down-to-earth people and....

....Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I thought the pretty Jilin ladies were absolutely gorgeous. Among the most beautiful women I've seen in China. They are not little flowers though. tough northern bitches if they feel like it.
