All EF's are trash, there is no such thing as a good one. All New Oriental ( XDC ) schools are rubbish also. The one in a city called Nanning is in particular terrible. The manager there is a bastard and a c..t.

I also worked there. Much like the OP, I don't write reviews often; however, the trauma of the experience compels me to write this review. It's really not that much work when all things are said and done. You are essentially a white clown, meant to sell a 'special education' The other English teachers are usually bottom of the wrung, and the whole thing feels like Game of Thrones. Only with a terrible prize of having to stay in Hohhot longer. I would seriously consider going to another city, as Hohhot does not have much of a foreign community. Trust me, you'll want a community after meeting the teachers there. Additinally, you should bring someone with you to teach of you can.

The management there are liars, backstabbers and bullies. I work hard, very hard, and all I got in return was constant lies, let downs and insults. It's run by incompetent idiots.

The foreign teachers are expected to behave like performing monkeys on demand, with a minute's notice. - Oh and they have to prepare all the work for such things at the drop of a hat, with no word of thanks or recognition, a nice dollop of criticism though.

Many of the people who get promoted have absolutely no talent or work ethic to be so.. the ones that do deserve to be promoted get so fed up they leave - leaving the morons behind who are on a power trip.

The person who's currently being promoted to DOS has no less than SEVEN complaints of bullying and intimidation made against him, but the Chinese management could not possibly care any less. They'll take the easiest option. The woman who takes charge is just as bad as him. They're like the tweedledum and tweedledee of your nightmares.

The Chinese management are not capable of telling the truth. 'Honesty' is not in their vocabulary. Fuck ups are made time and time again, with down right pathetic and moronic explanations. They frequently make promises they don't keep, make up absolute lies to get away with their mistakes and often try to dump their incompetence on others. Several teachers are sent back to their home countries after a few weeks work, because they constantly fuck up the paper work for their visas.

Decisions are constantly made at the very last minute. The teaching staff are not involved in any decision making (which quite often affects them the most), they're just told what to do at the very last moment (usually left with a hell of a lot of preparation to do and no time to do it in)

Oh and if you're a loyal and hardworking member of staff for a year or maybe even two, don't expect a word of thanks or recognition. Do expect to be ostracised if you don't agree with the morons, do expect to meet absolute bullies who have a very sad life and nothing better to do, do expect to be taken advantage of, do expect to be back-stabbed and slagged off, do expect to be lied to over and over again.

How loyal members of staff have been treated: Fined for flat damage caused by teachers who came before them, being made to live in a dilapidated shit-hole, not being given a release letter at the end of contract, had terms of contact broken, had promises broken, had management form firm partnerships with down-right bullies, and been LIED to again and again and AGAIN!

Having said all this, there are lovely PA's, foreign teachers and CC's there who'd do anything to help you. It's just a massive injustice and shame that the people at the top are scumbags, and have lied, cheated and back stabbed to get where they are.

I don't usually write reviews for anything and have never involved myself in any of these things. But please, for the love of humanity, don't go to EF Hohhot! There is no happiness to be found there!

Hohot EF maybe the worst place to work in the world but answer me this, why did you get on a plane to China without the proper visa? Furthermore, why did you sign a contract that states you'll get paid very little for working long hours? I think these are the questions worth pondering for anyone considering working there

If you are thinking of working for EF English First Hohhot my advice to you is DON’T!!!!

This school is a horrible place run by incompetent people (and yes I know some people will say all EF’s are like this and maybe that is true but EF Hohhot is a particularly awful branch of EF English First). You will get paid less than you would if you worked anywhere else, get less time off than you would if you worked anywhere else and work significantly more hours than you would if you worked anywhere else. You are unlikely to be brought to China on a proper Z-visa and will instead be brought over on a L or F visa (you will be working illegally) and then flown to Hong Kong at a later date to get your Z-visa, the school will pay for you flights but you will have to flip the bill for all of your other expenses, which in Hong Kong trust me are EXPENSIVE. Should you have any serious issues with your apartment, health or anything else you are unlikely to find any willing helpers at EF Hohhot and will instead have to figure out how to do it on your own, there are some decent teachers there who will be willing to help you out, but for the most part you will have to get used to everyone being out for themselves. The working environment at EF Hohhot is pretty much like high school there are cliques, rivalries and gossip as well as the fact that there will always be someone ready to throw you under the bus to further their own careers (if you can actually call working at EF a career).

To top it off the soon to be DOS of the school is more like a high school bully than a professional manager, he constantly targets people he doesn’t like for personal reasons and then goes out of his way to make them miserable in the workplace. The Center manager is the most useless woman in the world she was actually removed from another EF school due to incompetence but then somehow ended up with the CM position at EF Hohhot!?! The owner of the school is a typically money hungry Chinese business owner with questionable business ethics, you are your well being will be right at the bottom of her list of concerns.

And now honestly just cause I need to get it off my chest a note to every single person at EF Hohhot that stabbed me in the back, treated me like a doormat or f***ed me off in anyway shape or form.

I have done what you could not. Not saying I’m better than you but obviously I am cause I have quit. I was the one who put in all the complaints about a certain senior teacher being a c**t. I am the one who you treated like shit even though I was always nice to you even when I thought your problems were a load of shit. I dislike most of you and those of you I do like I don’t like enough to ever want to see you again. You may consider us friends but your surname in my phone will always be saved as the name of this school.
