Re Lucky International English Center

Pros

Great for developing your teaching techniques, as you can do as you like in "public" classes. Relaxed dress code. Great colleagues and nice students. Lower management is easygoing.

Cons

It is quite apparent this company is going down the drain. This is quite evident by its shrinking centers and dwindling customer base. In all my time in ESL (10 years), I have never seen such a bunch of cheapskates. If you are 10 minutes late, you lose half a day's pay. If you quit without 30 days notice, you can expect that you will not be paid at all. They will not honor parts of the contract such as paying for insurance and timely payment of salary. I have been waiting 5 days as of present, and this is the third time in ten months this has happened. The Chinese staff are never fully paid, only a piecemeal (like 1 month's pay when 3 are owed) when it suits the management. One of the sales ladies worked six months not receiving one thin dime before she gave up and quit. Due to these things there is high turnover, obviously. There are much better companies to work for in China, I suggest you look elsewhere, that is unless you don't mind possibly finding yourself broke and stranded in China. In any case, I doubt this outfit will survive a year.

Advice to Management

Understand that honoring a contract is not just for when it is in your favor. Pay all your staff in full and on time. Offer better packages (like 1/3 more) in the first place to retain them. Realize and understand that the "everything for me, nothing for you" approach is quite simply not working.

Re: Lucky International English Center

They have gone backwards! A Great Leap Backwards!
Maybe they've seen too many portraits of Mao on their money?
Got rid of most the foreigner managers and have replaced them with lackies.
(maybe an old word).
Anyway, they announced a nation-wide (tianjin wide) salary scheme for teachers.
It's all based on performance and now credible way for promotion or raises
unless you sell your soul and energy to them. Travel between TJ and their other
schools at the drop of a hat. Watch teachers of color get used and quickly dismissed
for white ones. Be treated like slaves and talked down to in broken English, have your
contract broken at their whim but no chance for you to return the favor, unless you walk
or stick it out and hope you get your bonus.
STAY AWAY from this school business!!!

You're better than that!

Lucky International English Center

Anyone have experience teaching at this school? I am unable to find any reviews or information about them. They are based in Tianjin but are expanding into Qingdao, Tangshan and Taiyuan.
