Re hampson english guangzhou

That's too bad that occurred. I've been working with Hampson for almost 5 years now at the downtown branch in Tianhe. I know management changes can occur, like any company, and communication can be mistaken. I haven't seen other branches aside from our own branch as ours housed also the American Embassy at one point and we were very busy. Despite the American Embassy moving to another location in Zhujiang New Town, we are still a bustling and proud center where we have over 7 teachers who have been with the company for 3 - 6 years. I know that Hampson English has been the bearer of some brunt commentary from the 2011's and prior so I hope that observers of these threads can very well see that. Well, time has passed and this is 2016. I can say I am proud of what the last 5 years has been and continue to stay on here. Good luck to everyone. We don't hire just anybody off the street, whatwith the new DOS positions put into place since 2014. The International teachers who take up these positions work WITH the teachers together with the Chinese staff and it's been very helpful to have this new management in place and "cleaning up" everything from centers to books, and even teachers who don't "fit" their position anymore because LIFE was calling them to do other things. It happens. Those who don't see the bigger picture may come to vent their negative position. I'm doing my contribution by adding some positive NEW vibes to old stories. Cheers from a Canadian! :)

Re: hampson english guangzhou

AMEN! They are the worst and they are even being run out of Shenzhen. They are being forced to close the Fortune Plaza branch and they are actually already in trouble in their new flashy Louhu branch.
They have a lot of lawsuits pending as the parents are forcing them to give them their money back.
THEY SUCK

Re: hampson english guangzhou

Thank you for your interest in Hampson! With so many evaluations of Hampson (whether positive or negative), this is an indication of Hampsons size and popularity.

No, It's just an indication that you decided to change tactics from making empty legal threats which you cannot follow through on to attempting to use reverse psychology.

Allow me to highlight a few figures regarding Hampson and address a few often discussed issues.

1, Hampson just turned 9 years old
2, Hampson has a total of 19 campuses located across 11 major cities. Each year Hampson continues to expand throughout China
3, We currently employ more than 700 foreign teachers. (Our large staff is a result of Hampson only offering 1 to 1 English educational services)

Hampson is the first organization, in China, specifically designed to provide one on one education by only hiring foreign instructors. We are not perfect and there are still many aspects our management team are constantly trying to improve on. But we can guarantee that Hampsons management is reasonable. We will not undermine our reputation by over a mere 1500RMB deposit. This 1500RMB deposit is always refunded unless a teacher seriously breaches the contract terms.

The Hampson organization is constantly growing and improving. We understand that some previous teachers were irate without their deposit withheld, thus posting negative comments about our organization and management staff. Please be assured that all of the previous teachers, who had their deposit withheld, had seriously breached our contract terms for this to occur. Over the last 9 years employing over thousands of foreign teachers, we have encountered some foreign teachers who have not fully cooperated with us, but a great majority continues to work flawlessly and harmoniously at our organization.

If you want to truly understand what its like working with Hampson, we recommend that you contact some of our currently teachers and hear their views. Feel free to swing by any weekday evening or weekend at any of our 19 campuses. They will be glad to share their views

No no!!! Allow me.....

1, Hampson just turned 9 years old and in that time have screwed around more students and teachers than the vast majority of training centres put together. The sheer amount of incidents involving a student having an all out argument with the staff at Hampson then calling in the police to get their fee back is staggering. As is the extremely high turn over of both teachers and staff.
2, Hampson has a total of 19 campuses located across 11 major cities. Each year Hampson continues to expand throughout China but completely fails in its venture as it cannot even get one campus right let alone the over 18 it has and/or any new ones because of its greedy selfish business strategy.
3, We currently employ more than 700 foreign teachers of which leave regularly because we employ anyone who walks through the door after a five minute interview on Skype and annoy all the other teachers whose schedules are not full and instead of giving those teachers the classes they ask for keep giving classes away to new teachers who have just walked through the door. (Our large staff is a result of Hampson only offering 1 to 1 English educational services even though we contradict ourselves by getting teacher to teach more than one student in a class very often but still only pay the teacher for the one student).

Hampson is the first organization, in China, specifically designed to provide one on one education by only hiring foreign instructors. We are not perfect and there are still many aspects our management team are constantly trying to make people believe we are improving on but never listen and always take great offence to negativity. But we can guarantee that Hampsons management is unreasonable. We will not undermine our reputation by over a mere 1500RMB deposit. This 1500RMB deposit is always refunded unless a teacher seriously breaches the contract terms so that being the case have designed a complicated and rigorous list of breaches which impose fines in our contract ensuring that our teachers will in most cases always loose their deposit.

The Hampson organization is constantly growing like a parasite and improving on the way we manage to rip off students and teachers. We understand that some previous teachers were irate without their deposit withheld, thus posting negative comments about our organization and management staff. Please be assured that all of the previous teachers, who had their deposit withheld, had seriously breached our contract terms for this to occur and that in no way did we purposely make our contract a minefield of pitfalls to trip up our teachers, after all we are Chinese so no one can accuse us of something like this and expect us to loose face, it doesn't matter what we do because we cannot be wrong. Over the last 9 years employing over thousands of foreign teachers because we cannot do the right thing resulting in such a high turn over, we have encountered some foreign teachers who have not fully cooperated with us and enjoyed it when we slip a big fat penis up their rectum, but a great majority continues to work flawlessly and harmoniously at our organisation and scream for more when we assault their rear passage, I think you know them as grovelling weasels.

We welcome any feedback you have for us even though we have already proven otherwise in another two threads by regularly posting up empty threats of legal action. We continuously strive to improve or school for our own benefit. Feel free to e-mail us at: hampson.edu @ 163.com if you are a complete looser and enjoy having your back passage assaulted.

If this is true (and i can believe it), then this is one of the funniest (sad as well) indictments i've read of any 'school' on this website.

Re: hampson english guangzhou

all the while begging me to do more demos to get her unqualified teachers more students.

That rings a bell although god only knows why introducing one teacher helps gain the business for another but they seem to think it does. One of the big issues, and I am sure it is the same at all training centres, is the fact that as soon as a potential client walks in it is like one of those cartoons where the dollar signs appear in their eyes. KERCHING!!!!!!

They will desperately do whatever they think they need to in order to get said client to part with their money only looking at the short term not the long. Most of the qualified teacher who do or have worked in this organisation have varying skills from being great at teaching young kids to teaching something more specific like SAT's or TOFEL etc.

Do Hampson pay any attention to the individual skills of any one teacher when choosing who to introduce to a client....... The answer would have to be a big NO! They simply look at who happens to be available at the time and they rarely bother to think about checking that teachers schedule to see if they even have the time to take on a new student first.

Lets look at this scenario for a second. Someone walks into a store to buy a new TV. The assistant comes over and helps them. The customer explains what they are looking for and the assistant goes on to demonstrate and talk about a TV they have which does everything the customer wants spending about 30 minutes doing so. The customer is very happy. "Great" they say "Ok I'll buy it". Suddenly the assistant says "Oh I'm sorry!! I can't 'sell' this TV to you". So the question in the customers mind simply has to be well what the @@@@ did you waste half and hour of my day demonstrating the damn thing to me for then and promptly walks out!!

That is what I used to see happening in Hampson schools. No real thought put into anything at all. They would have a client sat there for hours talking to teachers and the teachers were either unsuitable for that client and/or too busy to teach the student anyway. There were a few times I saw very angry clients having a big argument then leaving and my Chinese is good enough to follow the conversation to understand that they were angry because after choosing a teacher they introduced they were then told they could not have them. Lack of professionalism plain and simple and it is these kinds of things that will help to bring such a schools downfall.

Re: hampson english guangzhou

Hampson in Fortune Plaza has lost 4 qualified teachers in the past month that I know of (me being one of them). The manager there is the most low down [edited] I have ever seen. She is a real liar and a very deceitful person.
She enjoys pitting one foreignor against another and even admitted to me her disdain for foreignors, all the while begging me to do more demos to get her unqualified teachers more students.
I have never seen such disregard for education and I have even seen students become hysterical when they were told by some of the qualified teachers that they are not prepared for college entrance examinations. This is after paying and going to Hampson for over 1 1/2 years. They just keep getting shuffled between unqualified teachers and can not even begin to learn what they need to learn.
Hampson is the most insidious of all of the so called 'Training centers'. I have seen and heard things at their Fortune Plaza site that even I cannot believe. Sex in the private classrooms between students and a teacher. Teachers screaming at students calling them, 'Stupid'. Obviously unqualified and ignorant so called (teachers) teaching SAT (and who obviously have no university degree of their own) - Absolute chaos.
Hampson must close down and I am glad they are getting kicked out of Fortune Plaza. They have had enough of Hampson at that location. Their new Lou Hu branch is already in trouble and cannot get qualified teachers, especially not at 115 RMB per hour. Hampson must be stopped at all costs.

Re: hampson english guangzhou

That would be a typical tactic. Poor schools always come online and follow one of two avenues, sometimes both. They either start throwing their weight around and making empty threats against the person(s) who have something negative to say and/or begin attempting to try and convince people that their school has happy FT's by posting Chinglish statements.

Hampson have done exactly this in another thread here. Starting with a typical Chinese business ideology of threatening people with legal action:

"I will make a sue against you"

Then when that failed to silence their voices began attempting to use reverse psychology:

"With so many comments about Hampson schools it is clear that........."

Neither worked/will work. In my humble opinion I hope that they keep up that attitude. They clearly have no intention of taking on board the fact that their school is broken and their actions damaging to both the industry and FT, which is also very typical of China. As long as they do keep that up they are helping to put the final nails into their coffin and put a swift end to their business practices. They loose students and teachers quicker than a sieve looses water. Future FT replacement ends up being of the worst quality possible resulting in more unhappy students, more arguments in full public view, which is also a very typical China attitude, and therefore less business, less money and further chance of scaling down and eventual closure.

A decent and respectable business would take the position of trying to fix the problem. Investigate exactly what has caused the situation and upon discovering their business model sucks would clean it up as well as making a full and frank apology because of it. This never happens in China. The Chinese have a hard time facing up to accountability and are more concerned with the childish attitude of being publicly embarrassed than actually doing something about solving the problem. You see this everyday. Two people have a car crash and even though one of them went through a red light and is clearly in the wrong he/she will not accept the fact because accepting responsibility means loosing face and that is always more important. So the argument ensues and they will sit there with their cars blocking traffic until finally a police officer arrives and forces someone through authority to taking the blame and even then they usually try to find middle ground so no one has to loose face. Hey!! We are all human. As such we are all very capable of screwing up. In the West most of us are mature enough to put our hands up and say yeah sorry, it was me I am a @@@@head. This immature mindset is what helps keep China in the dark ages if you ask me and one reason why many businesses have uprooted and taken their companies to other nations in Asia.

Let me know when they finally close the doors on their aquariums at Hampson for the very last time and I will throw a big party in celebration.

Re: hampson english guangzhou

A few facts about this dump.

They do not have a licence to hire teachers. They use another schools licence which goes by the name of "dragon" something or other from Beijing to obtain visas. Anyone who holds a visa obtained by Hampson is employed as illegally as the many teachers they employ on student and business visas. Even if you work in one of the Beijing outlets and are therefore in the correct city at least you are still going to get screwed by the authorities if caught.

The chances of getting caught are for the most part "slim" nevertheless it DOES happen and happens more often then people sometimes believe. Once caught you will be fined, have your visa revoked, earn yourself a nice black mark with the PSB/immigration and will probably ruin your chances of obtaining ANY kind of visa for China in the future. In other words you can kiss visiting China for any purpose, including a holiday, thereafter.

Hampson don't care because you are expendable and easily replaced. As far as Hampson and the authorities go well we all know the level of corruption which exists in China don't we. An expensive dinner here a few gifts there and Hampson get a little slap on the wrist and are left alone to do it all over again. The FT is the only one who looses out. Also something to think about is the sheer amount of anger from people who have worked there. Many people WILL choose to try and cause them as much aggro as they can, and quite rightly so. There for many will choose to contact the authorities and drop them in it so the chances of a PSB visit are always HIGH.

They are one of the most disorganised and unprofessional set-ups around. Chinese business can be very like that but this place takes the biscuit. They happily drag teachers out of classes to do demos with no regard for the student who has paid hefty sums of money to be taught there and after a teacher spend up to 30 minutes of a students class time taking a demo, to which there is no guarantee they will end up getting the new student anyway, the school expects the FT to "makeup" the missing class time to the student out of their own time. By rights if Hampson want FT's who are teaching to do a demo they should be the ones digging in their pockets and reimbursing the student for the short class but they won't because they are a greedy, tight fisted set of crooks.

Any teacher who wants to work at Hampson on a full time basis has to pay for their own visa and it specifically states this in the full time contract. What kind of a school makes its teachers pay for their own visa, I ask you!!!! A visa and experts certificate is a required part of the business model. If they want FT's then that is one of the burdens of employing them but Hampson flat refuse to absorb this cost. So not only are you employed illegally because they don't have a licence but you have paid for that illegal visa yourself!!!!

Their contract is minefield of hidden meanings and imposable fines all designed to trip up the FT and avoid any responsibility of the school itself. They have a very clear scale of fine level for an FT who is late yet if a student cancels a class they are only expected to pay the FT half of the class fee. If an FT is sick and has to cancel on the day they are charged not only for each and every class they have had to cancel but also charged by the school too. As well as that the FT is expected to attend hospital to get a doctors note but this does not mean that the FT will not be charged if they obtain one, the fines still stand. I ask you why would anyone want to drag themselves out of bed when feeling like s@@t to a dirty Chinese hospital to obtain a doctors note which has no benefit whatsoever!!!!

They pay no overtime rates if you work on a holiday, they pay no overtime rates if working general overtime. They have little in the way of materials and resources and what they do have in incomplete and often run out of the necessities that one would need during a teaching day. They teach many young children yet lack the resources or environment that a young child needs. They have a few bits of broken plastic toys and torn flashcards etc. usually thrown into some scruffy, dirty, unhygienic room and a set of books called "New Parade" which all have "New Orientals" logo printed on them so obviously procured from an illegitimate source as they were meant for another school. Given the state of the printing in these books I would surmise that they were rejects sent back which have been sold on by some other crook.

They take a "deposit" when a teacher starts working there from their first salary and if the FT commits what they consider to be any kind of misconduct they loose said deposit. I see this as plain and simple blackmail and its intention is power and control. The list of things they deem misconduct is laughable.

No one should think about working in this place. At least no one who values their stay in China and considers themselves to be a person of integrity and professional.

Stay away from this awful awful school!!!!

Re: hampson english guangzhou

no, tefl in china never ceases to disappoint me. i was just staggered that a recruiter would send somebody who specifically requested summer work only to an interview with a 'school' that wanted somebody for 6 months minimum. The recruiter is either unbelievably incompetent or just wanted to waste my morning and p**s me off. If that was his aim then he succeeded. I'm glad you only spent a short time with these comedians. They sound like, and give the impression of, being bottom of the barrel.

Re: hampson english guangzhou

You almost sound surprised it was so bad :)

They couldn't organise a ****up in a brewery. Very typical Chinese business mentality from the very top to the very bottom, emphasis on the word "bottom" because that is pretty much where they rank.

Hire anyone after a 5 minute interview and allow people to dress like bums. Have a one sided contract with clause after clause imposing fines for one stupid thing after another on the teacher but do very little when a student breaks the rules. If a student messes the school around and gets mouthy when penalised they shrink and allow it to pass expecting the FT to help them out of the ****.

I still think in some respects training centers have their place, otherwise they would not exist but this place has to be the WORST for teachers and students alike. When I worked there I saw more arguments between students and/or students parents with the school than I have EVER seen before an ALL were carried out in full view of the school and the building it was in.

They were always running out of materials in one respect or another and it took them forever to organise replacements leaving you either without books or without stationary.

They have no interest and no input into what is taught and how in general and only begin taking any kind of interest when a student is bold enough to complain and they are concerned they may loose the students fee. I have seen teachers sitting around in the classroom with their student playing computer games and watching movies whilst speaking in Chinese for up to 100 minutes, quality English teaching indeed. At the same time if the student is stupid enough to sit there and enjoy that and be happy to pay high prices for it then I guess that is up to them. Personally, if I was Chinese, I could think of much cheaper ways to play 100 mins of games and speak in my own language with a virtual stranger. Like an internet cafe for example.

Can't speak for ALL their outlets as I only worked in one, briefly. But if that one was anything to go by I don't see them staying in business. It's also worth noting that most of their so called teachers are employed on the wrong visas like students trying to earn a little extra cash or people on a tourist or business visa. I read that of those on the correct visa, unless working in Beijing, need to be on guard as Hampson do not have the legal right to employ teachers in any of their other centers. All the visas no matter where you work are issued in Beijing and therefore should be working in that city. If caught you will get fined, possibly deported and screw your future in China forever. No doubt they will get a slap and told don't do it again sat at some dinner they are buying for someone in an official capacity.

Having had the misfortune to deal with this outfit on Friday, i would advise any self-respecting teacher to follow the advice on this and other boards and avoid the place. After speaking with the recruiter (calls himself Ben) about summer work, i went for an interview. Ben operates from Beijing (010 number) so i met the COD and one of the CCS. The building is entered up a broken escalator which is covered in paint dust. The office looked reasonable, though there weren't any receptionists and the decor was about as inspiring as your average prison. After serving me with the obligatory glass of water, the CC told me that demo classes were very important and that i needed to do a good demo to get students. The COD then arrived and started asking me the usual insightful questions, such as: Can you speak Chinese? Unfortunately, Ben clearly hadn't told her about my background (more than 5 years in China) as she then asked me whether i'd ever taught before. We then moved onto the question of my availability - 1 or 2 months, which i'd told Ben. At this point the interview stopped as they were looking for somebody for 6 months minimum (Ben obviously hadn't told them i was only looking for summer work).

If the people representing the school can't clarify the length of time they want a teacher for before an interview then i'd have very little confidence they'd be able to do anything else properly (or legally) - like get you a visa or help you find accommodation. From what the CC said, you're obviously also going to be pimping yourself to get the punters through the door as well. There are far better schools in Guangzhou, so don't waste your time with Hampson.
Here's their address:
Yuexiu North Road, Dong Men Hua Ting building (2nd floor). The nearest metro is Nong Jiang Suo.
