I remember paraffin lamps on the road, whenever roadworks were going on. They don't use em anymore in the UK now sadly. They were good because I good nick a couple of those and it would give me some free heat/lighting in the darker months. Probably because of 'elf and safety, kids might burn themselves, paraffin costs more and so on, but a real shame, I liked the smell of paraffin, and they used to last quite a long time, some kids would even take them to a den in the woods.
