Re ELIC in China

Hi Does anyone know anything about ELIC christian group ?

I just spoke to a university in South China and I was told they are interested in me but I should apply with this charity group because they control the teachers better.

Reading briefly about them it seems like a lot of extra work and meetings. Also it seems odd to be trying to save China in 2016 whilst preaching christian values. It seems groups like this reduce teachers salaries and double the work load. I did not know Christian groups were allowed in China.

Has anyone worked with or for this group?

ELIC is based in California. They also supply teachers to PRIVATE primary schools and middle schools in China! I don't think we should worry too much about the missionary aspect of what they might do there. I wouldn't have thought there would be opportunities for religious indoctrination there.

I've met their FTs at a private primary school as well as at a private university. They're into singing hymns evenings and are a close-knit group. They are strictly controlled by their local 'group leaders'. They are paid less than independent FTs by their Chinese workplaces. One thing that is true is that unlike other independent FTs, you can feel secure in their presence in that when you disagree with them, they won't resort to physical violence! Before arriving in China, their FTs are trained in the US how to teach and how to fit in in China.

Working for them would not be my cup of tea as I'm not religious, but each to their own!

So, what else do those Deans/FAOs tell you? Are you an accomplice in this process? Your forums participation clearly indicates you're a kind of "missionary" as well.

There are many FTs in China that are missionaries. All are members of congregations at home and some are subsidized by their congregations. Although technically illegal, many universities tolerate discrete proselytizing by their FTs. I have had Deans and FAO managers tell me that they prefer missionary activity to the drinking and student dating of their other FTs. Many FAOs prefer couples for the same reason, so husband and wife missionary teams at the same university are also common.

As many Chinese return from a Western University education, the Chinese Foreign Language
teaching staff now has their own missionaries.

Hi Does anyone know anything about ELIC christian group ?

I think they only supply FTs to private schools/colleges/universities in China.

The South China university you mention must have been private. Am I right?
