I would not waste my time on discussing "correct" terminology but would use the established terminology used in recognised standard literature on the topic. You will certainly notice that in the case of Taffy the 'discussion' normally ends at the point where he can't follow the debate any longer because of the lack of expertise in that area. He relies on monolingual dictionary definitions which means merely repeating what others have said and is equal to a computer program doing the math for you because you are unable to do it yourself.

For the bit on not really wanting continuous assessment at secondary school back home and teaching in China instead, well, that's a personal decision as the way it is done back home does not szit you personally. However, it does not necessarily mean that this approach is wrong in itself. In fact, it is standard worldwide at decent institutes of education. If China differs in that respect, it would not be a point of orientation to follow for me.

Continual assessment or intermittent assessment would make more sense! However, we are slaves of dictionaries in this respect. Best to stick to the term 'continuous assessment'!

Yep, each to his/her own. Being retired, I'm not affected directly by educational philosophies at all these days. I just wanted to point such things out for the benefit of teachers/potential teachers among our fellow readers.

I knew I'd slipped up shortly after I had posted the term 'continual assessment', which is certainly wrong. I was surprised Taffy was the only one to show interest after I had mentioned my blunder. Doesn't say much for the rest of you out there, excluding yourself, of course! You responded after being specifically asked to help by Taffy and me. Thanks for that.
