Former FT in China - 2016-11-16

Haughty or elitist - I don't care. One of the differences between you and me certainly is that I did not go to China to have an easy life by dropping out of my school career back home as you did. Did you ever ask yourself whethet you could do your best for your student when taking the jobs you had in some backwater place? Did these jobs help you, your students, or both? I am not lazy, and I have always cared for good and resposible teaching. Did you?

If you do, you will develop some traits in your personality that make you come across "haughty" or "elitist". If you don't care about teaching or your students at all, you most likely will feel satisfied with a pack of cigarettes and several bottles of beer! Not my way!

I am rude on purpose to those who I think deserve the same.

San Migs left this board because of your rudeness to him. Look in the mirror!

I have always tried to present a full picture of EFL teaching in China in terms of job responsibilities and ease of doing the job against the background of China's many picky parents. So, I've detailed the different EFL categories, such as kindergarten, primary school, junior middle school, senior middle school, college, university, public sector, private sector, GAC centres, and training centres.

I have also tried to give details of what levels of English and knowledge of English culture are required to keep one's job in the different categories of educational establishments. I have also tried to assess how much of an FT's salary is needed to live a simple life so that an FT can work out what he/she can expect to save from his/her salary. I have also indicated the way FTs can buy cheaper food and other consumer products from wholesale outlets etc and which foods are not overpriced. Also backwaters compared to cities in China.

I wonder how useful your contributions have been compared to mine!

You think I've 'dropped out' of a western school career as a subject teacher. U know not that only students drop out of school/university. The correct usage of 'drop out' is not one of your strong points! I'd say instead that I gave up one career for another.

Not to worry, I know you will keep on posting so that some of us can enjoy reading your posts. Some are certainly very entertaining, especially the occasional post you don't mean to be amusing at all!
