Trump diplomacy - 2016-12-12

The USA would have seen us in the gutter picking up dogends. We have been ingratiating
ourselves to America ever since the war

Ingratiating is not a characteristic of servitude or client-state status. Britain had no choice. By 1945 England and Europe and Russia were a shambles. The U.S. had a full 50% of the world's capital and 80% of modern manufacturing output at the end of the war. You kept your Queen. Japan kept their Emperor. Russia got Eastern Europe (agreed to in writing by Churchill). The U.S. controlled world capitalism for 60 years.

Not at all Hitler and logistics and a shocking winter did it for them. Hitler should never
have invaded Russia at that stage, summer or winter. Certainly a lily-livered USA could
have been vanquished by Hitler further down the line

All war is logistical. If Churchill would have agreed with Roosevelt and Stalin to invade Europe from the East, Hitler would not have been able to take 20 million + Russian lives. Churchill was willing to sacrifice Russian blood for his Suez Canal.

As far as U.S. bravery, it wasn't our grandmothers who were weeping in London tunnels while Russians battled Nazis and the British navy cluelessly cruised the Mediterranean and Indian Oceans.

Germany and Japan eventually rebuilt to become world financial powers.

Britain provided the world with FTs.
