The English language is a bawdy soup of Anglo-Saxon, Germanic, and Latin. Finding jingoist solace in "English" as a national racial language is nonsense. The output of British writers, poets, and philosophers is a true national legacy and worthy of pride.

I've had verbal interactions with residents of Liverpool and Southampton that would not qualify as conversations, yet we were both speaking 'English'.

Language should be a tool of understanding not a cult of identity. There are very few things about the United States that give me pride. Riding the tower of babel express, the #7 subway train on its iron path through Queens, surrounded by all races and pummeled by all languages, thrills me.

That joy at sharing the richness of the world's humanity is, I suspect, something that pDog and you may not understand.
