Re Stay away from China and Chinese schools

I think you are teaching in one of China's bluecollar towns!

Re Stay away from China and Chinese schools

Observation without judgment would be to your advantage. As would learning how to write properly; that is, beyond the level of a junior high school student. (In two short paragraphs, you managed to make at least 12 errors along with the totality of it being fairly incomprehensible.)

Another pretend teacher whose values and narrow mindedness, along with an obvious incompetency with the English language, point to his/her unworthiness to take charge of young minds.

true, china is the asshole of the world , it's sad , but if you search for the video of Yue
Yue you will see chinese morals

I think Mao read 1984 or maybe they were always like it. However, not many wanted to rule the
Chinese they were always difficult according to historical accounts

Re: Re Stay away from China and Chinese schools

Your words are reassuring. It feels good to see someone who thinks. We all have to be vigilant. Today, Sen McCain said: Dictators 'get started by suppressing free press.'

Sen. John McCain slammed President Donald Trump's attacks on the media this week by noting dictators "get started by suppressing free press."

It was a startling observation from a sitting member of Congress against the President of the United States, especially considering McCain is a member of Trump's party.

But he continued [talking to the press], "If you want to preserve -- I'm very serious now -- if you want to preserve democracy as we know it, you have to have a free and many times adversarial press," McCain said in the interview. "And without it, I am afraid that we would lose so much of our individual liberties over time. That's how dictators get started."

There's a video of Fareed Zakaria in that article where he says that last fall he was angry at McCain for not rebutting trump about many topics (including insulting McCain as prisoner of war in Vietnam when trump said that he does not like soldiers who get captured). But Fareed adds that he now sees the strategy of McCain which was not to go too far from trump BECAUSE McCain needed the trump voters of AZ in order to be re-elected. And McCain needed to be re-elected in order to have a deciding voice in the Senate (an ex senator is nothing, Fareed said), so McCain waited patiently (probably like he did in his jail cell in Vietnam). And now he can have a voice: He is one of 3 or 4 Republican senators who hold the balance of power in the Senate: These are the only people in Congress who can control trump. We need you John.

And we need you Caring.

Re Stay away from China and Chinese schools

People in China, Korea or Japan are victims of their systems just like the folks in other nations are. One distinct difference in China is the uncomparable level of manipulation of just about everything. No difference, however, should separate us from each other, since we all are on the same rock called Earth. This is why we, our children and our children's children need to keep on trying, so that one day this fine world stays more interconnected than it is in the current era of "globalization". Stay tuned rather than away from each other!

You're so right and wrong at the same time but I guess that's what life is about.

Re: Re Stay away from China and Chinese schools

Oh my... oh my, TD.... you read breitbart.com to understand... You are REALLY dedicated to understanding. I truly admire that but....

....but.....maybe it's like a person burning themselves with cigarette butts in order to understand jerking movements... Oh my!... One hour a day....

Humbly, I have to admit that I can only take the republicans indirectly, through reading about them in a friendly publication like the NYT, Washington Post, Huffington Post, and mostly the LA Times which is at the front line of the resistance. I could not do what you do with breitbart. But for sure, you will develop an understanding of your non-understanding faster than me.

Please take it easy.

Re: Re Stay away from China and Chinese schools

ost government employees tonight must be talking to their family, discussing what to delete
from their social media accounts, etc.

Curious,

Through the looking glass, fascinating and disturbing, curiouser and curiouser.

I'm trying very hard to understand Trump supporters. I force myself every day for an hour to read www.breitbart.com, though I find it as enjoyable as cleaning my bathroom.

In many ways I agree with their appraisal of the 'deep state' and the media, but the rationale behind their belief that Trump is somehow a solution to these problems eludes me.

Re: Re Stay away from China and Chinese schools

Many U.S. teachers feel frustration, as do most U.S. government employees

Just read that a lot of upper-level employees of the US State Dept were "re-assigned" today, no doubt because they were not trumpist enough. An aid to the new Secretary of Housing was fired (without the knowledge of the Secretary) because he wrote against trump last October.

Most government employees tonight must be talking to their family, discussing what to delete from their social media accounts, etc.

Re Stay away from China and Chinese schools

The way people generally think
is absurd: from daily life to work, you will come across instances that are impossible
to understand.

That is true.

If you are looking for a life where you are surrounded by people whom you understand, whom you "generally think" like, you should not work in a foreign country where the culture is vastly different from your own.

If, however, you have an inquisitive mind, a respect for other cultures, embrace change, possess a philosophy that questions the quality of your own 'knowledge' of the world, you will find that living in a foreign country will expand your world and your self.

Each of these personal qualities are characteristic of accomplished teachers.

This is not to say that you will always be comfortable. Personal growth is seldom comfortable.

I'm sorry that you did not enjoy your time in China, Maggie. Chinese schools, like all institutions, are frustrating. Many U.S. teachers feel frustration, as do most U.S. government employees and the millions of workers at U.S. corporations that work without pensions, job stability and health benefits. The Kafkaesque nature of institutions is not limited to China.

Teaching in China is not for everyone. But there are many, like myself, that value our time here.

Teaching anywhere is not advisable if, like two forum contributors who will no doubt ridicule this post, you are confident in your unassailable knowledge of the world, women, history, politics and parenting.

Re Stay away from China and Chinese schools

China and Chinese schools are not suitable places for a vacation or for a teaching post for each and every foreign tourist or foreign teacher.

Have a safe and enjoyable journey back home.

Stay away from China and Chinese schools

What a ridiculous place. After all the years, I was hoping for change but my time here is up. The issues in China can be a toll on a foreigners mind. The way people generally think is absurd: from daily life to work, you will come across instances that are impossible to understand. I have much to express in relation to my time here, but it isn 't worth the stress. Just a word of warning , stay away from China.

I do hear better stories about Korea and Japan, but I have never been there.
