And what's even worse is what happens after a foreign teacher has had the gumption to expose an incompetent Chinese colleague.Even though the former has proved beyond doubt that he(or she)is in the right,no sincere apology will transpire.Instead that foreigner will be deemed a troublemaker by all of his(or her)Chinese colleages and immediately sent to Coventry.
Having taught in China for quite a few years,I've become mentally hardened enough to go on teaching for a long time isolated and ignored by all of my Chinese colleagues,without batting an eyelid.The only good thing in that situation is that there are always some students who will visit you despite having been warned off you by your Chinese colleagues.After all,the students are the real bosses because their parents pay the tuition fees.And some of them resent being told to give you a wide berth because they are far more wide-minded and fairer than their teachers,most of whom are well used to being subserviant to ther superiors.
