In response to Thames School of Languages/Huizhou (artie)

Given that the question was posted in July, I know this reply is a little late. I taught at Thames School of Languages (TSL) in Huizhou for 2.5 years from February 2005. Fantastic experience, fantastic city.

The school has unusually good relations between the Chinese and foreign staff - probably because the school was born out a partnership between a Chinese and Brit, whereas most language centres in China are either entirely Chinese owned and run (in which case the foreign staff often complain about being over-worked and under-paid) or they're entirely foreign-owned enterprises (in which case the local Chinese staff are often treated abismally and relations between them and the foreign teachers are extremely poor).

Staff relations aside, the local populace of Huizhou is very warm and welcoming and it's a beautiful little city that really felt like home to me. I miss it a lot and I often go back there to visit. I can honestly say I have not a single bad memory from my time there and I would whole-heartedly recommend TSL to anyone thinking of teaching in southern China.
