My advice is that you continue to do the research you're apparently already doing. By digging deeper into the archives here at eslteachersboard you can learn a lot. It will, though, require a certain degree of discernment; that is, you will find that some posters are prone to sweeping generalities, while others will simply stay with the facts. It is, however, safe to say that teaching in China is not a walk in the park. You can't come here with too many expectations or you'll likely meet with a lot of disappointment.

My biggest disappointment pretty much centers around the whole idea of honesty. You won't find much. I've never been anywhere in this world where an employer or potential employer can look you in the eye and lie so easily. Honor? Hmm. More like honor amongst thieves. And then there is a whole other issue to think about; professionalism. Nope. Not so much. And, by that I mean an absence of professionalism and a drive for excellence not just by the schools but also in a very general way by those who would be your colleagues. At times it almost seems like China has become a dumping ground for teachers who couldn't get a job anywhere else - especially in their home countries. The word is out; need a job where your classroom activities won't be closely monitored? Go to China. No need to worry about excellence there - just do the minimum and all will be okay.
