I guess you're lucky not to be working at the university where I work. If that were the case, you'd be teaching as early as 7:50AM. It appears that you're being very selective in terms of what universities you choose to work at. Interestingly, too, you seem to think that all universities operate exactly as those you've worked for. Seems to me you need a little more experience in China before making such claims.

Where did you ever get the idea that students are the most lethargic in the morning? Sure, there are some, especially the young men who stay up all night playing stupid computer games, who can't seem to focus on anything except their inner eyelids, but they're the exception rather than the rule. (Actually, I think there has been research conducted that suggests language and mathematics are best studied in the morning not too long after awakening.) Personally, I find my first afternoon class to be the most lethargic. They've eaten and slept and whatever for three hours before dragging themselves back to class and it often takes them one class period to find any motivation - especially on really hot days.

Well, all in all, Silverboy, I think your recipe for the perfect job in China is a little idealistic and not based on sound reasoning. Despite what some "experienced teachers" have told you, I doubt that there's a university in China that puts off starting classes until 9 or 10. Sounds to me like you must be working for a school that calls themselves a university because that sounds cool to them and because they can use that as a marketing ploy. I would guess it's just another training school - a horse of a different color maybe, but definitely not a public university. Maybe I'm wrong, and hey if you can get what you want, so much the better. I'm happy for you. However, I wouldn't consider that as a justifiable reason to condemn other schools for the schedules they work out for the benefit of their students. And by the way, I like my schedule. Although, I do have to teach in the morning until 10:10, I then have until 2:40 before I teach again, but that's only on Monday and Tuesday. Then I only have morning classes on Wednesday and Thursday. After that, I've got three days free. So, although this college gives me plenty of other reasons to be irritated, their class scheduling isn't one of them.
