Thanks Turnoi for your comments. Certainly harsh words for someone with no direct experience of working for this company. However, it gives me one side of the story which is useful. Interestingly, I have since found out that the schools in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Beijing and Shanghai are not franchises but are corporately owned which, to me, makes a difference. Although I haven't worked in China before, I have had EFL experience in Japan and Europe and would agree with your comments regarding schools making money versus educational standards as they are at times uncomfortable bedfellows. However, communication, personality and attitude are important factors in bridging the gap between money making and raising educational standards. Regards the one other issue mentioned, people poor at management won't last long in any industry.
