Hello.
I have been teaching Business English at a semi-rural vocational college in Southern China for the past 2 years . Why I stayed for 2 years is another story.
I am the only foreign teacher amongst a student population of 5000. Many of the students come from rural villages and have never met a forign teacher before.
The English skills appear relatively poor.
I was hired by the School President.
The administration has been very kind to us,but there has been a lack of support from the other Chinese English taechers. It is a very small department.
1) Being told that I should not attend teacher meetings.
2) My teaching skills have never been audited during this 2 year period.
3) A poster that students made for weekly English Talk Time was ripped down and I was told not to replace it by the head Chinese English Teacher.
4) I am never informed of any celebrations or recently a talk given by a visiting Professor from the USA.
5) The computers are all in Chinese. I have asked repeatedly for help setting up power point demonstrations....
6) One of my classes went on a 5 day field trip to a nearby tourist resort to meet foreigners. I was told that as a Foreign Teacher my work visa would NOT allow me to

travel with the Class.

As the only Foreigner here at this college my intention is not to nitpick. The School Admin has been very good to me salary, living conditions,

but there seems to be a divide between Admin People and teaching staff. Has anybody else experienced any similar problems? EngChina.
