My name is Joshua Davis and I am not Hannibal Lecturer.

I actually received this post 2 months ago from a friend of mine who was doing the usual job hunt as he was returning from China back to Indonesia. As I work at President University as an English lecturer he thought I would want to see it. I showed it to about 6 different lecturers way back in April when it appears this "Hannibal Lecturer" actually posted it. The secondary reason my friend showed it to me is because in the 7 years I have been involved in the "English" business, I have never been shy to voice directly any opinions about the ESL industry as a whole or the institutions I have been employed at.

It amazes me that it took 2 months for anyone at President University to even see that post which means someone spent some time looking for posts on President University. The idea that no one even posted replys after 2 months makes the post a trivial issue and should certainly be below discussion by a University which wants to be internationally recognized.

Alas, speculation and gossip around the campus is that I wrote the post as I have been quite vocal about management and educational issues at campus. I did not write the post, I am not Hannibal Lecturer but I am slightly saddened that yet again, someone else beat me to the punch! I believe the post has received no reply's due to being posted in an ESL forum vs a University forum, which is where I would have posted due to relevance, I find the whole thing to be quite trivial and a tad bit humorous. I would have posted in a more effective demographic.

Regardless, I am leaving President University to return home at the end of July (due wanting to go home after 7 years of this english stuff and not due to Hannibal Lecturer) and I imagine that the lingering speculation will follow me to my departure. I don't care. If I wanted to post about President University, I would do so AFTER my contract is finished and I would have posted at a multitude of sites using keywords that forced those posts to the top of a "President University" Google search. In addition, I would have signed my name as I don't give a crap who knows what I say.

So...to Hannibal Lecturer I say 'touche" because what no one seemed to care about when you posted back in April is now full blown daily fodder around the University. And to President University I also say "shame shame". Rule 101 of advertising is "good news, or bad news" its all good advertising. Certainly bigger and more popular institutions have been criticized far more harshly and certainly in far more forums and posts. One can check English First and those posts go on for eternity yet EF seems to be flourishing just fine.
