WOW, some people come with unreasonable expectations and soon become disillusioned. Life in China is different to life in America, not better or worse, just different. You need to immerse yourself in daily life, not stay outside looking in, learn a few phrases of Mandarin, chat to the local bike repair man or security guys; even if you can't understand each other, you will soon feel part of the local community. After a while the locals will even stop staring at you. Well, maybe not, but you can only wish. My advice to anyone thinking of teaching in China is to be really honest with yourself.

That's funny, because I have lived in China for over 5 years. I speak fluent Mandarin as well as a good comprehension of the written language, have been married into a Chinese family for 10 years, have three Chinese children and have been visiting China for the 5 years prior to moving here too, still think I have come here with unreasonable expectations?

Are you trying to say it is unreasonable to expect someone to fulfil their contractual agreements? That one should come to China and, simply because it's China, expect to be ripped off, screwed around and generally be used and treated like rap?

The Chinese are trying to portray themselves in a good way to the rest of the world and be seen as a country and a people that you want to do business with. Not a country that after being here, you leave and inform everyone that you had the worst experience of your life.

Companies like Yuming Education give China a bad name and send the wrong message. If a company, regardless of being Chinese, advertise specific facts about the terms and conditions of employment, even tell you so when asked and negotiating your contract then they should be prepared for negative comments when they do not fulfil those agreements.

If you think that is having unreasonable expectations then perhaps it is you that is disillusioned by friend, not everyone else. It is not too much to ask that the company you work for respect you and treat you fairly and decently. I suggest you take your head out of your a@@ and wake up.
