Well, it's been 4 years since I wrote my original review of MKC. While I certainly can't make any statement as to how it's run now, I still stand behind my original post. What I do find interesting is that I've posted this review on several different ESL and TESOL sites, and I've had several people reply to my post by attacking me as a "disgruntled former employee who was fired." The great thing about these types of attacks is that the posters are attacking my character, not the facts as I've laid them out in my post. Not once have I seen anyone logically and categorically defend MKC by showing that my facts are indeed not true. Has to make one wonder, doesn't it?

While reading through the subsequent posts here on the ESL Teachers Board, I found most of them quite humorous. I wouldn't go as far as to say that MKC was run by the kids, as Alyssa Liang is a highly intelligent woman with a great business acumen. I would say that their educational methodology leaves a true teacher as myself feeling very frustrated and in need of something better - which is why I was fired in the first place: I was written up for trying to be creative in my lessons and for taking my older students to the gym instead of having them play on the toddler equipment. When I finally suggested that I work on writing my own lessons instead of using their pre-planned notebooks with the myriad of dittos in them and complained that the Head Teacher was a micromanager who felt threatened by my being there, Alyssa concocted a story that made me look like I was the bad guy and told me I had to go - which I did - straight into a better job. Being fired by Alyssa Liang was one of the best things that has ever happened to me career-wise.

As I've previously stated, I stand by my review of MKC, and challenge anyone to prove my facts wrong.
