Ultimately I was investigated by the Public Security Bureau as, despite having a Z visa, I found that this had been illegally issued (the school had no license and was therefore not permitted to employ foreigners). The school was raided and I was questioned/interrogated by the police on 3 occasions over the next 2 months and was threatened with deportation. I eventually was required to admit my guilt and pay a fine. This school was not on any blacklist and I completed a fair amount of due diligence including speaking to the other teachers but was still caught out. Since I left, another teacher has also been required to employ lawyers to protect themself.

More minor incidents include having my contract altered (each time within the probation period so I had no control) 3 times within 2 months causing my salary to be reduced from 10,000RMB/mth to 2,000RMB/mth and the total disorganisation of the school's management.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
