Well, likewise I have had academic specialization in China, but the name Sinologist was not to be taken too literally, just like my comment on nasty surprises and hidden layers was not to be taken too literally. If you perceive that as bigotry and racism, I suggest you do less worshipping at your altar of political correctness and get out more into the real world.
As for the hidden surprises, get this. I applied for a position in Tonghua, a mid sized city in Jilin province with a famous viticultural industry, only to find that after I arrive in Jinan I am to be based in a backwater known as Lushuihe, but "It belongs to Tonghua" my agency tells me.
This is a pattern of being economic with the truth that I have found all too often in China.
It is not bigotry or racism to say that certain countries suffer from an endemic of corruption (such as Russia) or an endemic of many other ailments if there are facts to support ones argument.
Take for example the unreported aspects of China's high speed growth, namely wastage. For the average 5 dollars invested in the US or Western Europe, roughly four out of the five is effective. In China that ratio is roughly 1 or 2 out of the 5, part of the reason being bribes and kickbacks.
Or take for example the governments relentless doctoring of history, and evisceration of the truth in general. A good case in point is Fareed Zakaria's recent interview with Wen Jiabao that had many parts removed by the Chinese state run media for its domestic audience. If a country censors its own sitting Prime Minister, that certainly speaks volumes.
I'm just making a point that being economic with the truth is something I encounter all too often in China, many times I find myself saying "oh now you tell me."
This was more so the case with other private tuition companies in Beijing, rather than with Expertise, and I've found far more nasty surprises since my tenure with them than I ever did with them.
That's my overall point, call it what you will, but if this offends your religion of political correctness, I suggest you put back on your Tin Foil Hat!
