SCHOOLS AND RECRUITERS REVIEWS

I was hired a year ago as head foreign teacher at Canada International School or CIS. I walked into a mess and seemingly walked out of an even bigger mess. Initially, the job seemed promising. However, the first warning to this organization, or nest of disorganization should I say, was the revolving door I first encountered. In other words, as many people were resigning or being terminated as were being hired. This mainly applies to CISs so called research and development department. Teachers seem to stay a little longer. I lasted 6 months and was seemingly a seasoned veteran when my tour of duty was abruptly ended.

Mr. Kim, the proprietor of this swarming nest, changes his mind extremely frequently and abruptly. This is the primary cause for the extreme disorganization in his schools. The campuses seem to lack leadership, direction and most importantly morale. The latter is the most concerning and distressing aspect of CIS. Teachers are overworked and extremely stressed. When I observed staff members at the campuses where I worked, I have to say I have seen happier people at a funeral home. I have also seen staff members in tears as a result of conflict with each other and those in authority.

Money seems to be another issue. He does seem to pay on time. There seem to be always petty issues about deductions of some description, however. When you leave, be prepared to fight for your damage deposit and other miscellaneous things. I never did get my deposit, which was 600 000, won.

In conclusion, you are reading this because you are considering coming to Korea and teaching for this organization. My advice is to find another private school and avoid this so called school at any cost. Keep in mind that CIS is not an international school nor will it or should it ever be. There are many honest schools out there where you will be treated far better and thus be much happier.
