The school's name is called VIAkings, think of it when you're trying to pronounce VIAgra. It is located right across from the Guiyang Grand Theatre, Bank of China, and next to GuiLong Hotel (location: JiNianTa, NanMing District). It's on the very top floor (probably the 26th floor, i forget). This school has two bosses, and they're brothers. The school is named after their last name. The oldest brother's name is James, and the young brother is Luke. Both of their English are good. Both of them are short. James seems to talk a lot and tends to correct people's vocabulary and their attitudes. He has a smart mouth which you'll get tired and learn how to hate him after a month working there. Luke, on the other hand, is a quiet type of person. He seems to look shy and calm. Most of the coworkers and I feel comfortable talking to Luke more than James, because Luke tends to go with the flow and curious to learn new things. However, I feel like Luke is James's puppet. Whatever you tell Luke, Luke will definitely tell James. (What goes around must comes around.) So, pretty much James is the queen of the school and Luke is the maid of James.

Before I flew out to Guiyang, I contacted James and Luke thru email about their school. I asked them about the number of teachers working there excluding the 2 of them. I also asked them about the number of students enrolling in the school and about their curriculum. Based on the email that they sent to me, they told me that there are a total of 12 Chinese teachers and about 300 to 400 students enrolling at their school, and if I worked for them, then I will be the only foreign teacher. About their curriculum, they have none. They told me not to worry about that and we'll discuss it when I arrive there.

When I arrived to Guiyang, I went to VIAkings the next day. I met up with the 2 brothers and had my interview. James did all the talking while Luke just listened. The interview was about yourself and your education background. After that James discussed about the classes and how the schedule runs here. He asked me to come the next day to observe him teaching. He then discussed about my monthly salary which he clearly stated that the lowest I could earn is 5,500 Yuan per month. I asked him if he's willing to pay me every 2 weeks and he did agreed to that. So, I took the job offer. I also mentioned to him that based on the email that he sent it to me, he told me there were a total of 12 Chinese teachers working for the school, and how come I only see 1 Chinese teacher. He then stated that there probably was a miscommunication on that. Whatever!!

They did rented a very nice apartment for me, and it was very close to the school. Well, lets make the story short.....

Pros:
You get to teach whatever you like to the students as long as it involves with English.
You can come to the office anytime you want as long as it does not interfere the time that you actually have to teach. Meals are provided during the weekends. Sometimes, James and Luke will buy you lunch or dinner.
Money do get reimbursed for every materials that are purchased for school-using.
Taxi-fares and school trips (trips are ONLY fun if James is not at presence) are paid if the two brothers asked you to go to that location.
The coworkers are super nice and super helpful!!

Cons:
The school lacks of teaching materials.
Students learn from the boring Disney book and the New Concept English.
There's no such thing as hands-on activities nor any games activities for the students to enjoy. I have to come up with some hands-on activities and games for MY own students. Based on what my students told me, they said that they prefer having me teaching them than the 2 brothers. I asked them why and they answered me that they get to do fun activities rather than reading books and reciting words. They even told me that they feel comfortable talking and asking me personal questions. I told them to be open-minded and don't be shy. I treated each of my students as if they were a good friend of mine.
James and Luke are lacked of criticisms and advices from employees.
James think that he's open-minded but the reality is he's not.
James has a smart mouth and thinks that he knows almost everything.
James is a total show-off. He posted his photos on the billboards for the whole world to see that he had involved with CCTV or have talked to some of the CCTV anchorman.
If you're good at teaching kindergartners, James would ask you to write a one-year lesson plans for the class. (in which, i refused because it's not easy and it'll take a lot of work and time to do that. LEARN how to say NO to that midget!!)
James will make you host the Christmas party with little materials provided and try to make a lot of money out from you. (You're the bait, James the fisherman, and the parents and children are the fish).
James and Luke timed the students and have them recite a passage or read their books very fast. If the student did not make it below 50 seconds then that is considered NOT PASSING or NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Based on my observation, the students' pronunciation weren't very good. I did mentioned this to James that students shouldn't be time when reading a passage or reading a book. That's not how an English-rookie learn his/her English. Again, James is lacked of suggestions/advices.
Classes will automatically add to your schedule without even telling you a week or 2 weeks in advance.
James doesn't know his manners. He'll answer the phone right away even though you guys are in the middle of a conversation. (He could of at least say "Please excuse me.")
If you kept giving James advices or suggestions, he would think that you will try to compete with him and try to take over his position. (Yes, that happened to me and that's how the problem started).
James prefers good-looking female teachers only.
If you're a female and are good-looking, he would try to seduce you by giving you a ride home or taking you out to dinner. (No, that did not happen to me cuz I'm a guy. It happened to one of my coworkers.)

Well, there are more to say about this school. I'm kinda tired of talking about this school now.....I'll continue later. If you want to know more about this private english training school. Please feel free to contact me. If you think that I'm just bored and have nothing good to do and just want to brag about other schools, then please feel free to work at VIAkings. You'll get your experience sooner or later. I'm not asking you to not work there but I'm just giving you some heads up before working in that school. If I were you, I would AVOID at any cost!!! 2 brothers = double-trouble!! Contact me if u wanna know more. I'm glad I'm out of that dungeon!!!
