In response to Re: hampson english guangzhou (hampson fan)

A few facts about this dump.

They do not have a licence to hire teachers. They use another schools licence which goes by the name of "dragon" something or other from Beijing to obtain visas. Anyone who holds a visa obtained by Hampson is employed as illegally as the many teachers they employ on student and business visas. Even if you work in one of the Beijing outlets and are therefore in the correct city at least you are still going to get screwed by the authorities if caught.

The chances of getting caught are for the most part "slim" nevertheless it DOES happen and happens more often then people sometimes believe. Once caught you will be fined, have your visa revoked, earn yourself a nice black mark with the PSB/immigration and will probably ruin your chances of obtaining ANY kind of visa for China in the future. In other words you can kiss visiting China for any purpose, including a holiday, thereafter.

Hampson don't care because you are expendable and easily replaced. As far as Hampson and the authorities go well we all know the level of corruption which exists in China don't we. An expensive dinner here a few gifts there and Hampson get a little slap on the wrist and are left alone to do it all over again. The FT is the only one who looses out. Also something to think about is the sheer amount of anger from people who have worked there. Many people WILL choose to try and cause them as much aggro as they can, and quite rightly so. There for many will choose to contact the authorities and drop them in it so the chances of a PSB visit are always HIGH.

They are one of the most disorganised and unprofessional set-ups around. Chinese business can be very like that but this place takes the biscuit. They happily drag teachers out of classes to do demos with no regard for the student who has paid hefty sums of money to be taught there and after a teacher spend up to 30 minutes of a students class time taking a demo, to which there is no guarantee they will end up getting the new student anyway, the school expects the FT to "makeup" the missing class time to the student out of their own time. By rights if Hampson want FT's who are teaching to do a demo they should be the ones digging in their pockets and reimbursing the student for the short class but they won't because they are a greedy, tight fisted set of crooks.

Any teacher who wants to work at Hampson on a full time basis has to pay for their own visa and it specifically states this in the full time contract. What kind of a school makes its teachers pay for their own visa, I ask you!!!! A visa and experts certificate is a required part of the business model. If they want FT's then that is one of the burdens of employing them but Hampson flat refuse to absorb this cost. So not only are you employed illegally because they don't have a licence but you have paid for that illegal visa yourself!!!!

Their contract is minefield of hidden meanings and imposable fines all designed to trip up the FT and avoid any responsibility of the school itself. They have a very clear scale of fine level for an FT who is late yet if a student cancels a class they are only expected to pay the FT half of the class fee. If an FT is sick and has to cancel on the day they are charged not only for each and every class they have had to cancel but also charged by the school too. As well as that the FT is expected to attend hospital to get a doctors note but this does not mean that the FT will not be charged if they obtain one, the fines still stand. I ask you why would anyone want to drag themselves out of bed when feeling like s@@t to a dirty Chinese hospital to obtain a doctors note which has no benefit whatsoever!!!!

They pay no overtime rates if you work on a holiday, they pay no overtime rates if working general overtime. They have little in the way of materials and resources and what they do have in incomplete and often run out of the necessities that one would need during a teaching day. They teach many young children yet lack the resources or environment that a young child needs. They have a few bits of broken plastic toys and torn flashcards etc. usually thrown into some scruffy, dirty, unhygienic room and a set of books called "New Parade" which all have "New Orientals" logo printed on them so obviously procured from an illegitimate source as they were meant for another school. Given the state of the printing in these books I would surmise that they were rejects sent back which have been sold on by some other crook.

They take a "deposit" when a teacher starts working there from their first salary and if the FT commits what they consider to be any kind of misconduct they loose said deposit. I see this as plain and simple blackmail and its intention is power and control. The list of things they deem misconduct is laughable.

No one should think about working in this place. At least no one who values their stay in China and considers themselves to be a person of integrity and professional.

Stay away from this awful awful school!!!!
