As a postscript, let me add this:
The OP had said that payment to her was made on the basis of a an hourly rate and the actual time she had spent on translating the piece.
This is an entirely unusual thing in the European translation industry as far as I know.

This is absolute nonsense. This poster knows nothing.

Swiss Association of Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters, recommended hourly rates for Proofreading: http://www.astti.ch/media/site/tarif/tarife_trad.pdf

Translators Café, Community Rates (per word and per hour listed): http://www.translatorscafe.com/cafe/CommunityRates.asp

Proz, Community Rates (per word and per hour listed): http://search.proz.com/employers/rates

Society of Editors and Proofreaders, UK, recommended hourly rates for Proofreading: http://www.sfep.org.uk/pub/mship/minimum_rates.asp

Association of Freelance Editors, Proofreaders and Indexers, Ireland: http://www.afepi.ie/faqs.htm

Or, simply go and do a google search for "Proofreading rates". The poster clearly has no experience in this industry.
