In response to Re: Aston English, Xian (Dragonized)

I stated in East Asia (which includes the Phillipines, China, Japan, and the Koreas) people have a hard time admitting they are wrong, especially when they receive criticism.

My experiences in China certainly mirror what you've said re the mainlanders. Passing the blame when things go wrong is evident among all age groups of mainlanders. This is the easy way out for a people who are very nationalistic, yet though spouting the concept of teamwork as a great doctrine, don't practise it individually. They always place their own interests first and ahead of those of the group. I've every reason to believe this also applies to East Asians in general.
Mainland foreign teachers should be aware that when it comes to teaching contracts, the employer takes the liberty of assuming he has the right to break them, whereas he will come down hard on any FT who dares to do so. One rule for them, and a diametrically opposite one for us. If you call him to account re his breaking his side of the contract, thus making him lose face, you'll win a battle, but you'll lose the war. End of contract, not a hope in hell of a renewal - you'll never be forgiven, and you'll be branded a troublemaker, even though you were careful to point out the breach in a polite way.
These days, Chinese students are too quick to blame their teachers for their poor examination grades, especially the offspring of the wealthy. After all, daddy will believe their lame excuses and switch them to another shonky private school.
