I agree!
And Western media is trying to cover up the cracks by disallowing talk shows that used to discuss controversial issues. They used to give people a chance to criticise governments and organisations. ABC used to have a radio program called 'Australia Talks Back', later amended to 'Australia Talks'. It was shelved completely, as was the VOA's radio program of a similar ilk, 'Talk to America', a few years ago. The ABC has a good radio show called 'Late Night Live, but I have noticed that over the last couple of years the % of lightweight topics on it has increased.
In the UK, it's a fact that international radio programs are generally more heavyweight than their domestic counterparts. But I've noticed that since the BBC World Service was privatised a good few years ago, there are fewer controversial topics being discussed than there were previously, and programs like 'Have Your Say' are seldom worth listening to. The issues discussed are not meaty ones, and there are even some arty farty topics of little consequence. The English service of Radio Netherlands Worldwide has been severely curtailed recently due to financial constraints. That station used to have some great radio shows such as 'Bridges with Africa!
