Teachers should be qualified, if you're not, and you teach something incorrectly to a student (especially if it the first time they are learning that structure) it's very difficult to unlearn it.
Unlearning errors/mistakes from less qualified teachers is indeed a problem for students, and it should not happen. Now, what about so-called native speaker posing as "teachers" who cant keep simple things like "its" and "it's" apart in written English. Far too many of them in China, but it is the Chinese who invite them to come to "teach".....hahah

Students can get bogged down with worrying about its and it's. They can also get bogged down with too much culture, silly lesson plans about the environment and the plight of black African slaves in America. All stuff worth talking about but when they can talk. Lay and lie,doesn't matter, get them chatting first, then start honing. One thing I do nitpick about is yes and no-students say yes when they mean no and no when they mean yes. This doesn't seem to bother most FT's but i will spend a whole lesson on it, involving some grammar.
