I came over on an L visa to teach at Shijiazhuang Railway Institute, a state-run college. After I'd been teaching for about three weeks, the school asked me to visit Hong Kong to obtain my Z visa.

Well, I have done a visa run in Hongkong myself, and it was not particularly pleasant. I assume that the school "allowed" you to pay for the travel and visa expenses yourself. They have caused you headaches, expenses and loss of your time and energy because they in the first place were unable or unwilling to complete the paperwork to send you the docs you need to apply for a Z visa in your home country.

You have been fooled by them, and this is my very ACCURATE advice to you!

I don't know what you're on about.

The fact, according to what you say, is that you have not followed the ordinary procedure that all of us have to follow when preparing for teaching in China legally. Part of that procedure is to take a medical in your home country, get all the necessary paperwork sent to apply for your Z visa at the Embassy at home. If the school has told you not to follow that procedure and to follow another one instead, then you have been misled and fooled - as simple as that!

I don't like medicals either but they are part of the process according to the rules, and I do not appreciate neither job applicants nor schools that do NOT follow these rules and do something else instead. In the long run, it will make the situation in China even more difficult for all of us.
That's my take of the situation!

You advise others not to do what you have done yourself! Do as I say, but not as I do. You are a contradictor, and nasty to boot!
