You brought up some interesting questions regarding the job post of the English Center in North China.

>They want a black teacher who already holds a Z visa???

Any school that states a preference for a teacher of a certain colour is questionable. The reasons why schools state that they prefer white teachers, are blatantly obvious and have been discussed ad nauseam. The reason a school should particularly seek BLACK teachers may not be so obvious. Here are two possible reasons:

1. The school in question may have just previously employed (or may be currently employing) a black teacher who was or is a big hit with the pupils, school leaders and student parents. Because of this the Chinese, who are often naive and sentimental as regards foreigners, may believe that EVERY black person displays the same attributes and qualities that endear their previous black teacher to them.

2. Based on what I've read and heard in China I believe it's quite possible that the low wage has something to do with their preference for a black teacher. Somewhere down the line they could make the claim that the students can't understand his accent, and this claim could be made even stronger if the teacher is for instance from Africa. This tactic could be used to keep the wage as low as it is, decrease it or even terminate the employment later on without having to pay severance. Then they could start the process all over again.

I know I'm a cynical old cat. I guess that's what four years in China can do to you! Perhaps somebody from the school itself can enlighten us as to what exactly their intentions are.

Regarding the Z visa, I admit that it DOES sound dodgy! But they might be having trouble explaining that they require a teacher presently in China who already has a legal work permit, and who has just finished his contract at another school and with time left on his permit may be able to join the advertised school and thus make their job easier in obtaining him legality at their school.

>4000RMB per month for 22 classes a week???

Covered, above.

>?beed' teacher asap???

I think the above is just a typo. On most keyboards the 'n' is right next to the 'b'. They probably meant to type 'NEED'.

>Be careful!

Thanks! This will be of particular value to newbies
