As the head of the English department at the first college i worked for in China said to my girlfriend:
"The only reason they (foreign teachers) come to China is because they're crap in the West".

Most of the people running the colleges/schools have absolutely zero respect for foreign teachers. I would sum up the attitude thus: they need us, but they certainly don't want us.
