JIm - 2006-10-16

Okay, we worked for this company:

Oxford Language Institute/Gukjae Language institute/ Jeju International English Village

The owners name : Lee Chan Won and wife Jasmine
137-869 Seoul Seocho gu Seocho 3 dong 1467-89 5th floor Tel: 02 588-3399

We worked for these evil people Mr lee Chan Won and his witch of a wife Jasmine. When I went for the job interview I quizzed them on the contract for two hours and every question I asked them the answer was a lie. They went through three Korean managers in five months!
We were promised accomodation two apartments in the same area - a lie! Once we'd been to Japan for the E2 Visa we returned to find our accomodation was over an hour apart.

THEY TREAT ALL NATIVE TEACHERS LIKE ANIMALS THAT THEY OWN. THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR HAPPINESS OR ENJOYMENT IN KOREA
Hours - A lie! We were told 1pm-5pm but this never happened. They farmed us out to public schools (2each) gave us bare materials for 2months - no whiteboard.

Made us open bank accounts that they keep the books and cards to and the Public schools pay us the teachers into that account. 5 million won or more goes into the account each month but we then get paid by another company who we don't work for into another account less than 2 million won.The schools think we get paid everything.

THE TRAGEDY IS THAT THE GOVERNMENT PAID OUR WAGES FOR THE AFTER SCHOOL ENGLISH PROGRAM AND THEY MAKE MONEY AND DON'T CARE ABOUT THE STUDENTS OR EDUCATION. THE SCHOOLS PAY THE TAX ON OUR WAGES, THEN THE COMPANY TAX US THE TEACHERS AND PAY NO TAX THEMSELVES, LAUNDERING GOVERNMENT MONEY.

The elementary schools we worked at were:

Yeoksam elementary school(Yeoksam), Jamjeon elementary school (Jamsil),
Yunjin elementary school (Yeoido), Shinyung elementary school (Daerim) Banwon elementary school (Express bus terminal)

They changed our schools and kept passports/Alien cards for long amounts of time.
When they made us change schools, because we worked at 2 schools they lied to one school saying that we were bad teachers and had complaints from another school and so we had to change. The schools for the most part are innocent.
Called at any hour of the day/night demanding we work on weekends.
They made us to go to a Jeju summer camp, made us work 12hours a day for ten days.
They sent one girl to the airport with no ticket, she had been in the country less than a week and they didn't have a ticket for her. After a three hour wait at the airport she returned to the camp at 3am. She ended up going to Busan and then having to pay for her own train ticket to Seoul.

They gave us no summer holiday and when we demanded it they bullied my girlfriend with a written warning.

They didn't pay a girl from U.S for the summer camp, she worked for 7 weeks straight and paid her own roundtrip ticket. They didn't pay the cooks and they walked out, the supermarket wasn't paid so they refused to deliver food to over forty students. They refuse to answer the phone to anyone.

The face of this buisness is a woman called Jasmine, when you sign a contract with this company they will refuse to fill in the appropriate details of employer name dates, salary and everything else.

We were also threatened with the mafia if we tried to resign from our contracts.

They broke over forty articles in the Labour Act of Korea and show no regard for the law. Furthermore should you try to assert your rights under Korean Law they accuse you of anything from fictional physical assault to imbezzlement of funds to counteract your claim.

One guy they recruited from Australia when he arrived they had no school for him to work in and consequently he was not paid until they did.

Two teachers ended up working at two scholls in one day, which were at opposite ends of Seoul.

Whenever we tried to have a meeting with them they never listened to or answered our questions, shouting in our faces and refusing to listen.

Having found out other complaints about these monsters, we went to immigration. This worked to our favour. The woman on the ground floor was unhelpful until I asked her to check out where it is I worked. They had forged our signatures onto new contracts with a different school that we had never heard of. We were then sent up to investigations and our Korean friends translated until the guy in charge of Seoul immigration told us that the stamps in our passports for the summercamp were illegal ( the monsters had forged these with their own stamp) The boss fat man Lee Chan Won was banned from operating any ESL business and had been in jail before. The Summer camp was also totally illegal. He released us from our visa. We then went to the press and they are trying to collect enough evidence to run a story. What immigration did say was that you can legally leave your job
whenever you like. All you have to do is write a letter explaining why you quit and hand it to them. I would be happy to hear from anyone that deals with these creatures in the future da3rdearl@hotmail.com
