The business is ticking over at about 15,000 rmb net on average a month excluding weddings (which can increase turnover considerably).

Far more lucrative than teaching ESL and I would imagine more rewarding then. You'd have to teach a lot of hours to earn that in ESL in China, and perhaps, in quite a stressful environment. The gulf would pay better for far less effort, and tax free to boot.
