Sanya is indeed an overrated tourist trap shithole; where salaries are often low but prices are often high. It has its benefits but they quickly wear off. Just go there for a holiday, don't bother living there unless you can open a decent business that targets tourists.

'Martin Hainan' might disagree with me, he's still there in Hainan now so maybe his opinions are more valid than mine/

The beaches aren't even that great, but there were a few teachers who surf that would make trips to better quality beaches up the coast.

On a positive note, the hookers are beautiful, plentiful and cheap though, you could bang absolute stunners from the North East for 200 a pop. However, there's a fair few loose girls on holiday in the clubs, but they are usually looking for the wealthy Fu Er Dai types that regularly party there.

If you can get a cheap flight, just stay at the Blue Sky Hostel in Dadonghai, sip on cheap big bottles of Tsingtao in the hostel or go to the nearby Dolphin bar, don't bother with the 5 star resorts unless you fancy splurging on a really good meal or drinking cocktails (The Mandarin Oriental is top notch, but pricey). If you want get away from Dadonghai and go to Yalong bay or Sanya bay, just use the public buses.

Vietnam? Not sure about ESL, but I would fancy opening up a bar/restaurant there one day.
