No, no. I realise that. And it is exactly my problem with you. Teaching should not be about doing the bare minimum for an easy life. It should be about working hard to provide the best education you possibly can for your students. The fact you view it as an easy option in which to coast through to an easy life is precisely my problem with your attitude towards teaching.LG does not realize that many older FT's ( over 40 ) do not want to come to China to work hard with long hours. Basically they are there for an easier life compared to back home.
What they do in their free time is up to them, no question. But when they admit to doing the bare minimum for their classes because what they do in their free time is their reason for teaching in the first place, then it is a problem for me.
I worked with a teacher who once turned up to work in the same clothes he had left the school in the night before, reeking of booze having gone directly to a brothel after finishing his class and staying there all night. I sent him home, covered his class myself (it was my day off, I'd gone in to the office to collect a textbook) and after made sure he was fired. His reasons for teaching were that he was a native speaker and needed a visa to stay in China to continue getting drunk and paying for Chinese girls to sleep with him. Much the same attitude as you describe in the last paragraph of your post.
My problem with these types is that the education of their students is not their first priority, sometimes it's not even a priority at all, and I believe if you are a teacher it damn well should be. I go out and enjoy my free time with my friends, but if I'm teaching the next day I won't be out drinking the night before. The same cannot be said for the types of men who use teaching as a means of funding their extended sex tours of China.
By all means sow your oats with the locals, but make sure you are giving your best to your students too.
