In response to "The devil is in the details" (as they say) (wonderhorse)

Wonderhorse, I agree with everything you said. Chinese job advertisements are quite often deliberately misleading. Teaching contracts in China are hardly worth the paper they are written on. Sadly, people like you and I will be called,"China bashers", by some readers of this forum, just like Turnoi.

I am not going to tell people not to teach in China, but any newbies reading this have to realize that most school employers in China (and Korea) are totally dishonest. Another scam at training schools is the "interview", or what is sometimes called a "walk in". A prospective student walks in off the street (usually with one or two family members)You are given ten minutes to evaluate their English language skills.

At one place, I was required to sit around at the office for nine hours every second Saturday or Sunday,so I could conduct four or five of these interviews. You are only paid for the 40 or 50 minutes you spend conducting the intrviews. Sometimes, teachers are paid nothing for this.

This is an example of one of the "add ons", that Wonderhorse was talking about. Another problem is travelling across a large city to attend your classes, and finding out they have been cancelled. You will hardly ever be compensated for your time and transportation costs. So, If you want to teach in China, be prepared for crap like this.
