SCAM ALERTS

This is a tad puzzling and is more of an annoyance than an actual "scam" I suppose. The original poster describes "herself" as someone holding a Z visa who needs a teaching job pretty much right away. My school actually was looking for someone so I sent "her" a text message and heard nothing for quite a while. Maybe 2 days ago "she" sent me a message asking what city the job was in and I asked "her" if she is a native speaker because "she" shouldn't waste my time or hers if she isn't. She replied she is indeed a native speaker and I told her the city. I heard nothing more. Today I was sitting at home, my cell phone rang and a man with an obviously non-native accent asked for "Linda." I assured him there is no Linda here. He asked me if my school needed a "foreign teacher." I said no, not any more and even if it did he is obviously not a native speaker and my school wouldn't hire him anyway. He hung up. More annoyed than angry I phoned the number from the original posting and a man with the identical accent answered. I asked him to please not give out my number anymore and he proceeded to get an attitude and swear he never gave it to anyone, an obvious lie. (An educated guess places the accent as West African...maybe Nigerian.) I have absolutely no idea what these folks are up to but I guess they figure if they can at least get a city's name out of you they can just show up and look around. Or maybe they are selling my number to increasingly desperate non-native speakers as the market for them is drying up considerably. About all I can say is beware of who you give your phone number to.
