Re Beware of ESL Lecturer position in Cameroun

An African university in Cameroon can never afford to pay 4000 USD a month for their local teachers. It should be common knowledge, and that is how I would recognize this as a scam. South Africa may be different, the salary scales for faculty members there are quite good and similar to those paid in Europe and in the USA. But poor Cameroon ----- no!

In response to my application they claimed the position was already filled but I was offered with an option to apply for a similar position at the University of Bamenda, in Cameroun. I was offered a job with over $4000 a month salary without even going through a job interview. I was told my contract would be on a three month probation basis before I get a two year contract.

Beware of ESL Lecturer position in Cameroun

I read an offer for a position in Durban, South Africa posted by James-whistler@gmx.com claiming to be from University of KwaZulu, Natal, dated 18 June 2014, mentioning Embassy English, under the University of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa.

In response to my application they claimed the position was already filled but I was offered with an option to apply for a similar position at the University of Bamenda, in Cameroun. I was offered a job with over $4000 a month salary without even going through a job interview. I was told my contract would be on a three month probation basis before I get a two year contract.

I was told my Probation Contract was on its way, waiting to be signed by the Vice Chancellor. In the mean time I needed to send a Letter of Accommodation so my work visa could be processed. I therefore needed to pay in advance three month rent from an Agency I was referred to.

Of course I never received any contract. I was glad I figured out at this early stage that this was a scam. I later found out a similar scam had been posted for work contracts in Cameroun.
