Reasons How the iPod Got Its Name
By:Kenny Leones

iPod is one of the leading brands for media players. This product was made by Apple. It was launched in 2001. Most people think that the name, iPod is so cool because you can easily remember it. A lot of people also wonder about the answer to the question, why is it called an iPod.

Vinnie Chieco was the main reason why it is called an iPod. He was a copywriter who worked on a freelance basis. He was offered a job by Apple. He became a part of a team that was assigned to take the job on figuring out how the company can introduce the gadget to the mass public in a way that it would be appealing for everyone not just for the computer savvy people.

During that time Jobs wanted to settle on the product's tag line one thousand songs inside your pocket. He insisted to the team that it is important that people know that it not just a player for music but it is also a hub for different programs. This gave Vinnie Chieco the idea to brainstorm on different words to describe a hub. He began to think of the terms he could connect with a hub. It would be the best hub that would be beyond anything. He compared it to a spaceship that comes in a tiny size like a pod however you would have to come back to the big ship for refueling it and to give it energy just like the gadget.

Vinnie Chieco then saw a sample product with the front part covered in white plastic. He immediately thought of it being the most modern player there is. Then he thought of adding the prefix I from iMac to the word pod. This is one of the answers to the question why it is called an iPod. Chieco also scrapped the other names that their team had thought of before iPod because it was not appropriate for the gadget.

Another answer to the question, why it is called an iPod was because of the successful registration the company achieved for the product. A trademark expert named Athold Foden from California. He said that Apple had already secured the iPod brand name for the company. It was supposed to be used for a product that would look like a kiosk for Internet. The project didn't really materialize so it was just filed for the company. On the fourth of July 2000, Apple successfully registered the name, iPod, describing it as an Internet kiosk for the public that contains equipment with a computer.
