Short Stories for Teachers

What Focus Gives You
By:re

Theories or common sense and action

Theories are meaningless. Coming up with them, as well as using - and, in the worst case, depending on them - is a waste of time. Why? Because it drives you to think, rather than act. They might be good for whatever glorious things unrelated to achieving. (If you are a theory nut maybe you see a point in simply "having a theory about something". That is ok, maybe you see some value in it that I do not).

That's the short story; the reasons for this are many.

The world is in constant change, includes way too many variables for it to be fruitful to depend on a, stagnant, theory. And, however good you are at writing, you can never transcribe the experience - all different sensations - of action. However vividly explained, the person will not get a reference point to how the action is done. A 100 page explanation might do justice to a minute of constant variation of approach... and what sounds more reasonable, reading a hundred pages, which takes hours - and probably renders you confused - or trying for one minute. Also, reading does not active you - but makes you nerdy; not adventurous but evasive and theoretical; ask any successive person, and that person will tell you action, rather than theory, is key. The reality is in the experience of-, rather that in a theory of a situation.

Even if that was the case, that is one reference point - without being able to put that into a web of experiences, the person will have no relation to the meaning; which trying, experiencing it for yourself, provides.

Focus connects you, to the moment and to the world around you. You're disconnected from theory, thrown into the midst of action -with no fear, as you do not think about but act on the situation.

Use your common sense

This way you will figure a lot of stuff out before "science" does. Working out harder gives you better results - and making working out hard a habit will get you used to it; making it not as "something negative" as it would have been had you not started out hard. ï??- these things you can figure out through using common sense - if you use your common sense to apply what you know about evolution, that things adapt or die, to what happens to your body when you workout; if you destroy your muscles, to survive it builds bigger ones - and to, in some sense, survive the body forces itself to get used to working out hard when you work out hard. Get it? It's not rocket science. In fact it is not science at all, and try to stay away from creating science out of everything...

Relax, know your goal, find one thing at a time to focus on, and take the action your common sense tells you is the right one.

Focus and your breath

I want to begin with saying if you are in a stubborn mood you will not believe what I am saying in this section. So, relax and loosen up - let your shoulders relax, sink into the chair while maintaining an upright posture and slow down your breathing; if you will, stand up and feel how steadily your feet are connected to the ground; yes, it sounds ridiculous but the ones who care about that are the ones who are not willing to do what is necessary to succeed; ridiculousness is your friend.

Is your focus correlated to what you think about...? Is it correlated to if you think about milk or honey - or, using your common sense, do you think your ability to focus may come from how well you take in, the life giving, oxygen through breathing?

You need to breathe. It is SO simple to breathe right. Problem, people, as they are caught up in every day stuff, do not take the maybe half an hour of focus on the right thing a day that it takes to become a chilled out person. And possibly are so caught in their patterns of breathing and moving and so on that they think they cannot change. And, if they take the time to change, I have a feeling they do so without completely devoting their energy to the task. Maybe they work at a place/doing something that does not tickle their achieving muscle; so, are not used to fully focusing on what they are doing; more likely than finding the absolute best way to achieving "this" and "that", are "going through the motions" of their work. "Im making money with less work than had I given my heart and soul, right?", might be their though loop.

Is the notion maybe true, though? It is true if you breath shallowly. Breathing that way, your most important factor to enjoy your live is thrown out of balance. Taking the lack of oxygen intake to the extreme, your body and mind think you are dying; an analogy would be how "well" you breathe when you are drowning, chipping for air.

If you manage to find a way to breathe right, then maintain that - and realize that no one can take your breath away from you - then any work is a simple one. Your relaxation can be taken from the inside, you understand. So it's all good.
