The Originator of the Zip Code
By:Virot Korn

Every thing on earth surely has an origin. The same can be said of the zip code system that is now being used by the United States post office department for the sending of mails to recipients al over the country. There is no way we can discuss the zip code without discussing its origin, there is also no way we can discus the origin of the zip code without making mention of the inventor.

It was one Mr. Roberts that actually came up with the whole idea of the zip code. This man was also a staff of the United States post office department. He was working as a general postmaster when he came up with this idea that had become something that the whole world can't stop talking about today.

It is not so surprising that it was a staff of the United States post office department that finally came up with a lasting solution to the pressing problems that the country's mail posting system was having. This was a man that was fully in the system and he knew what it meant to be under so much pressure to get mails across to those they were intended for.

There were several needs that pushed Mr. Roberts to bring up the idea of the zip code. The number of mails was on the increase all through the country unlike what had been experienced in earlier times. Apart from this, the cities were growing bigger and the smaller towns were expanding rapidly than could have been thought possible.

Increase in the volume of mails was leading to a situation in which the possibility of mails getting loss increases. The mail senders ended up getting frustrated and would vent their anger on the post office department. It is very possible that the unacceptable nature of these insults might have pushed Mr. Roberts to sit down and come up with this number system that had refused to go away since 1963 when it was announced as the official means of sending mails all through the United States. It is growing to the extent that several countries are making use of it.
