Teaching Kids with Sesame Street
By:Leanne

Sesame Street is a children's television program featuring Jim Henson's muppets. Premiering in 1969, it has been teaching children for many years. The characters of Sesame Street include Elmo, Big Bird, Bert, Ernie, Abby Cadabby, Grover, Oscar, Cookie Monster and many more characters. The television series is aimed at preschool children and helps young children in their preparations for school.

The Sesame Street television series helps children in learning the alphabet. It offers words and pictures to develop word associations for learning and remembering letters. The program also aids children in learning numbers and basic arithmetic.

The television program uses modeling, repetition, rhymes, animation, short films, music and humor to teach and educate young children and prepare them for school in a fun and entertaining medium. Although it is tempting to put a child in front of the television to watch Sesame Street while parents are tending to other things, it is encouraged that children watch Sesame Street with their parents to instil the lessons that are taught throughout each episode and ultimately they will reap more of the benefits watching the program with an adult to reinforce what they have learnt.

Sesame Street also features an online interactive platform that offers a plethora of educational resources to teach young children. The Sesame Street website is particularly useful for children to use and offers many games, videos and interactive tools and media to educate and teach in a fun and non threatening environment at their own pace. Not only does the Sesame Street website offer the educational benefit from it's online content, but it also can aid in the development of a child's motor skills too.
