How to Make Goals

Setting goals is one of the most important things that we need to do to ensure that we'll grow on a personal and professional level. Knowing the things that you would like to achieve can help you see yourself where you're going in the next couple of years and can help you decide ahead of time the actions that you need to take in order to get there. People who are accustomed to setting goals and who are committed in achieving them no matter what are those that are extremely successful in all aspects of their lives. Do you want to become one of them? Then, start setting your goals now. Here's how you can do that:

1. Know the things that you would like to achieve. Get a pen and paper. Then, find a place where you can be alone and where you can think clearly. Proceed by listing down the things that you would like to achieve for the next 5-10 years. Think of those things that you've always wanted but are unable to pursue. Are you hoping you can get a college degree? Do you want to have your own business so you can resign your 9am-5pm job? Do you want to renew your relationship with your kids? Do you want to make more money without spending too much time outside of your home? Do you want to become fit and healthy? Do you want to change your attitude and become more positive? When setting your goals, it's important that you're very specific. Also, include a timeline. Finally, make sure that both your short and long term goals are realistic and measurable.

2. Next step is to write your goals where you can see them each and everyday. Write them in a form of a positive, encouraging statement. For example, you can say "I'll eat less meat and eat more vegetables and fruits for the next 7 days to lose at least 3 lbs this week. At the end of the month, I'll be able to fit into my old swimsuit and that will make me feel better about myself" Seeing this the moment you wake up will surely motivate you to realize your pre-set goals in as little time as possible.

3. Do something to realize your goals. Figure out all the things that you can do to realize your goals ASAP. For example, if you want to make more money without sacrificing your family time, you can think about starting your own business. Then, ask yourself; what do I need to start a business? You may need to go back to school to get the needed information or to acquire needed skills and resources.

4. Ensure that your goals will help you become a better person. As crazy as it may sound, there are so many people who want things that will not do them any good. If you want to be successful and happy at the same time, go for something that will help you become a better person, a better husband/wife, a better parent, and a better employee.
