10 Items You Must Have in Your Emergency Survival Kit
By:Joy C. Harrison

In today's world, you never know what emergencies may happen. You could be in your home, traveling in your car or on a plane, or even sitting in your office. It's always important to be prepared for any situation that may arise. That is where an emergency survival kit can be handy. While it may not be able to help you sustain life forever, it can help you in emergency situations and help you until you are able to get help from police, the fire department, or a rescue unit.

Here is a list of what you should keep in your emergency survival kit....just in case.

1. Personal locator beacon (PLB) or cell phone

2. Map of area

3. Small first aid kit

4. Compass

5. Water bottle

6. Flashlight/Headlamp

7. Lighter/firestarter

8. Space blanket

9. Whistle

10. Signal mirror

There are other items you may want to consider as well that are not listed above. These include: gloves, water purification tablets, nylon braided line, waterproof matches, tinder for fire starting, moist wipes, large knife/machete/hatchet, 9x12 plastic painters tarp, mini LED flashlight, small roll of fishing line or dental floss, and a $50 bill.

It's also important not just to have these items, but know how to use them and why they're in the kit in the first place. Consider taking a survival course at a local community college or even as continuing education. In the event of an emergency it's always good to have a game plan so that you can act fast and act smart.
